Meet Student Ambassador Siobhan Allaeddini

We’re excited to introduce another student ambassador! Meet Siobhan Allaeddini, studying commerce at NUI Galway:

Siobhan AllaeddiniHello all aspiring scholars, my name is Siobhan Allaeddini and I am from Orange County, California. I am currently attending NUI Galway where I am studying Commerce and will be graduating in 2013. Often when people realize I am from a foreign destination I get asked the same question, “Why did you leave Orange County for Galway?”

The answer is simple enough. The culture, lifestyle and education programs far exceed anything I felt I could have received at home. In most European universities, from the moment you begin your course you are studying what you wish to pursue your career in. No general education classes teaching you things you are genuinely not interested in. In essence, you get what you pay for and what you want. In addition to the straight-forward education system, Ireland and its people have a reputation for being THE friendliest and liveliest European country. Prior to my attending NUI Galway, I had been to Ireland several times between my Irish Dancing competitions and my mother visiting her immediate family members (she was born and raised in Kildare, Ireland). The culture and lifestyle were no surprise to me; however, I know for most other students it isn’t all that drastic either. That can be credited to the people and laidback atmosphere that encompasses all of Ireland.

Even though I had to been Ireland many times before attending college, I had never ventured to Galway. I decided to go to NUI Galway based on the universities and towns outstanding reputation. NUI Galway is one of Ireland’s best universities and has several new state of the art buildings to enhance our education. Additionally, I felt I wasn’t ready to make my way in such a large city like Dublin. In Galway, it is easy to familiarize yourself with everything and everyone, and the city itself is known to cater to its students. It is Ireland’s “most popular university city.” I chose to study Commerce because essentially, it is the core of any career. Everything revolves around business and economics and I know that in studying this course I will be more than equipped to enter the working world, no matter what field I may end up in. However, to each their own. NUI Galway offers a wide variety of courses at a higher, outstanding level. If any prospective students have any questions, feel free to contact me at: s.allaeddini1@nuigalway.ie.
