Management and marketing at UCC
Kevinder Singh is one of our Malaysian ambassadors and a master’s student in Management and Marketing at University College Cork. In this blog he discusses his course, what he has learned so far and his overall experience at UCC.
Hi, my name is Kevin, and I’m currently studying at University College Cork (UCC) and I’m delighted to be representing my institution as an Education in Ireland ambassador. It was an honour to be selected as an international ambassador, and so far, the programme has been a great opportunity to meet new people and learn more Irish culture – all of which makes me proud to be an international student studying abroad in Ireland! I have loved my time here so far, and would definitely introduce the option of studying in Ireland to my friends throughout Asia! I’m from Malaysia, and coming here was the first time I had ever travelled to Europe. It has been a real whirlwind for me, but great fun!
I’m currently studying for my master’s in Management and Marketing. The course is mainly for managers and leaders who want to specialise in the management of companies, and it covers marketing and human resource skills too. By studying modules in these areas, I feel my professional skills have been brought to higher level. Most of us are aware of what a leader or a manager is, but do we know how to become a great one? This course has really helped me with this question!
During my first term here at UCC we studied:
- Management and Leadership
- Marketing Communications
- Introduction to Marketing
- Consumer Behaviour
- Market Research
- People and Organisations
- Contemporary Issues in Human Resource Management
During the next term, we will be studying:
- Leadership and Followership
- Ethical Management and Marketing
- Enterprise and Innovation
- Strategic Thinking
After our academic classes finish, we will have the opportunity to begin a work placement to enhance our abilities in a real working environment. Using all of the modules mentioned above, we can use this time to maximise our knowledge and blend all the new information together so we can lead companies in an improved and more productive way. We also receive guidance during our work placement and on how to improve our resumes. I think this placement is really beneficial to all the students involved, and I’m looking forward to the experience.
Besides that, all the lecturers within my Management and Marketing course are really helpful, and are always willing to spend time with students – especially offering advice regarding assignments. We can ask as many questions as we want. It’s hard doing assignments for the first time in English, as it is not my first language, but the lecturers here are willing to assist me with my assignments one-to-one. I feel very comfortable with the teaching staff and they all are very kind and helpful.
UCC also provides a huge number of clubs and societies. The UCC Sports Centre is one of a kind. The sports facilities are well-equipped, and the staff provide a great service. Plus, it’s free for all UCC Students. It’s really good!
I believe this course will give me a much better understanding of my job in my future career, and will benefit me in the real world when I return to work and leave student life behind once more.
I hope this information helps! If need any more details, don’t hesitate to leave a comment below and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you for reading, and to make sure you don’t miss my next blog by subscribing below.
