P.S. I Love You…Ireland

January 31, 2014 | By | One Comment

Looking for something to do in Ireland on a slightly wet weekend? Wan Mohd Hariz Bin Ramli, our Dublin Business School and Malaysian ambassador discovered Ireland’s Hollywood and explored County Wicklow in the rain…

Few would have known that there’s actually Hollywood in Ireland! There’s even the infamous Hollywood sign over the hills! You can find this little town in the mountains of County Wicklow – also known as ‘the Hollywood of Europe’! Some very well known directors have chosen Wicklow as their location to film, including for the movies Braveheart and P.S. I Love You. I had a chance to explore the Wicklow hills recently, and it was certainly a day to remember!

Together with some Malaysian friends, we battled the Irish weather and walked around one of Ireland’s most beautiful places – Glendalough in County Wicklow. This legendary monastic site, pronounced ‘Glen-da-lok’, meaning a ‘lake between the two mountains’, is rich in history and surrounded by stunning scenery. Founded by St. Kevin, Glendalough has been through some highs and lows over the years, and the main pilgrimage site was one of the worst affected during the 1798 Rebellion.

A rainy day for visiting the round tower – but still amazing!

There are many activities for visitors at Glendalough and indeed throughout the Wicklow area. You can cycle, walk your way up the hills and even hike here. I had a great time exploring the region, even though the weather wasn’t not on our side, the scenery and sights are utterly mind-blowing. I can’t wait to go back someday!
