With a wide range of topics to select from, social sciences offers a fully captivated experience that may interest any prospective student seeking to study how people behave and live in today’s society. The course deeply investigates global development by formulating an understanding of the modern world; highlighting how different regions function, how they are governed, how we work, where we live, and how we communicate with one another.
With the degree, I have the ability to select two topics specifically — Politics/International Relations and Economics, with an elective in Information/Social Computing. With three subjects, I have class Monday through Friday, however it is quite handy because I am always kept busy! I ultimately chose the joint honours pathway due to its convenience of variety — I am not locked into one category of study, but rather am given an option to enjoy multiple subjects within the programme. Additionally, a major perk of about studying in Ireland is being able to also dive into one’s course of study directly, and to take classes that escalate by each year of continuation.
“Deciding what course to study can be quite difficult, as there is so much to select from — however, social science brings practice and principles that will widen your intellectual thinking and critical mindset.”
Studying Social Science at University College Dublin is a privilege; the professors are bright, easy to talk to, and the programme is involved and abstract. The early morning lectures and late night study is worth it, and even over just one semester, I have realised how much information I absorbed in just four months.
Deciding what course to study can be quite difficult, as there is so much to select from — however, social science brings practice and principles that will widen your intellectual thinking and critical mindset; resulting in effective discussion within tutorials and lectures. Selecting Social Science at UCD enables you to listen to certain perspectives and prosper in scholastic growth. There are diverse apprehensions within the course itself, you may meet students who may be in your exact same subjects, or you could meet others with one in common but the rest different — giving you an opportunity to collaborate from a different background of skill sets, expanding your network globally at one of Ireland’s most incredible institutions.
