This course is designed to appeal to those who have an interest in the world of international business and marketing. It is ideally suited for anyone hoping to work in a cosmopolitan, multilingual environment either in Ireland or overseas. The course caters for those with a basic understanding of Spanish (specifically to the Leaving Cert standard — the Irish state examination) and who wish to develop their linguistic skills to a higher level of proficiency. If you are attracted by learning a language through studying business and marketing then this is the course for you.

During semesters one to four of this degree programme, you will gain a thorough grounding of the industry. At the end of semester four, you begin the process of choosing the specific areas which you hope to eventually work in. Semesters five and six of the programme are spent in the European country of your choice — France, Spain and Germany are the countries currently on offer. During this time you can opt to study all or just part of your course material through the language you have chosen at one of the European partner institutions of IT Sligo. The semesters spent studying abroad really differentiate this course from all other business and marketing courses. It allows students to develop their language skills, build international links and personal friendships, to engage with new cultures and to learn about the business environment in other EU member states. I promise that it will be an exciting and fulfilling year for you. The final semesters (seven and eight) allow you to combine your learning and international experience in preparation for the working environment.

The programme aims to train graduates who are highly skilled, flexible, adventurous and good communicators. It prepares graduates to be independent thinkers, to be willing to engage with other cultures and to understand and enjoy the many opportunities available when conducting business internationally. The successful graduate will have mastered a unique blend of skills that are highly sought after in the global business environment.

How long is the course?

Four years with eight semesters full-time overall. One year is spent abroad at a European partner institute.

What will I study?

The modules covered include a language of your choice (French, German or Spanish), Contemporary Marketing Practice, Marketing Communications, Dramaturgy, Market Research, Public Relations, Sales, Buyer Behaviour, Global Business Environment, Business and Marketing Law and Business Management.

That covers pretty much everything I can think of in relation to International Marketing and Language at the Institute of Technology Sligo. If you have any other questions about the course please leave a comment below.
