FROM BRAZIL TO IRELAND: MY GOAL IN STUDYING AT MARY IMMACULATE COLLEGE, LIMERICK
I am Marcello Pereira Tamwing. I work as an English teacher in Acre, Brazil’s westernmost state. I graduated from college in 2017 at the Federal University of Acre (UFAC), receiving a bachelor’s degree in literature and English Language. Since then, I have been teaching English at a variety of levels such as primary, secondary, and even third-level education.
In terms of academic research, I am interested in linguistics, literature, and educational politics. In February 2023 I finished my master’s in education at the Federal University of Acre.
One of my characteristics is that I am determined to improve my credentials as a teacher and am always seeking opportunities to pursue a successful career in education. Now I am taking a diploma in Mentoring and Leadership at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick.
My biggest goal here in Ireland is to contribute to the future of Acre’s education with the experience acquired in the Diploma of Leadership and Mentoring. Maybe I could become a coordinator and share with other teachers from my city what I have learned at MIC and even encourage them to participate in other editions of this great opportunity.
I am very excited to learn as much as I can and make a difference in my return to Brazil. I hope to explore some examples of leadership that I came across in Ireland and the things I have learned about the Emerald Isle. One thing that I am interested in studying here is the Irish English variation. I am very passionate about linguistics and studying languages. I am lucky enough to have met classmates from all over the world who have been inspiring and supporting me a lot.
