Has studying abroad been a dream of yours for as long as you can remember?

Student Ambassador Beatriz Selene Martinez Castaneda shares the journey of her decision to study in Ireland!

The land of the fairies and the fulfilled dreams

This is my life tale, and my name is Beatriz. When I was in Mexico for a school activity a few years ago, I had the opportunity to learn about the wonderful things that Ireland has to offer, including its people, its culture, and its traditions. My interest in learning more about this magnificent nation began at that point.

After some time had passed, I came to the realisation that it would be possible for me to make my childhood ambition of living in Ireland a reality if I were to take advantage of the opportunity to learn English in this nation. My time in Ireland provided me with the opportunity to practise my English communication skills with native speakers of the language. I was fortunate enough to be accepted into the English immersion programme that is provided by the schools in the area; unfortunately, my time spent in the nation as a participant in this programme has now come to an end.

On the other hand, I have been able to make another one of my dreams come true in this country, and that is to earn a degree in another country. Independent College was the best option for me because it provided all of the requirements that I needed. Since the College is situated in the heart of Dublin, getting there is not a problem at all. He suggested a class that would be a good addition to the one I was already taking and offered it to me. I have been given help as well as answers to my questions regarding the processes. Throughout the pandemic, they have shown concern for the students.

Not only has living in Ireland enabled me to develop professionally by helping me improve my English and allowing me to pursue a second degree, but it has also enabled me to have wonderful experiences with people hailing from other countries, each of whom has their own set of beliefs and traditions that are distinct from mine. This nation welcomes its many diverse cultures and makes room for newcomers. It is a country in which I have had no fear while strolling at night and where I have been able to appreciate the peace and quiet that is present, in addition to being able to view foxes and swans while doing so.

On the other hand, I have had the opportunity to experience snow for the very first time and see vistas that I could never have imagined seeing before. The history of the nation as well as the ancient Celts were also topics that could be explored in many museums that I have visited. I have participated in the celebrations that are held in honour of Saint Patrick and Halloween, both of which hold a significant place in the culture of the Irish.

My desire to carry on with this journey grows stronger with every passing day that I spend in this country. I’m still learning about all that Ireland has to offer, and I can’t wait to do so… Do I get homesick for my family? Yes. Would I put myself through this ordeal once more? Absolutely. You should absolutely come to Ireland and try to make your dreams come true.
