Student Ambassador Mavis Hye Xuan Chia shares her incredible journey studying software design in Ireland! From exploring Ireland’s stunning landscapes to building meaningful connections at TUS, Mavis reflects on her experiences and the personal growth she’s gained during her time abroad.
Embarking on a journey to study abroad is often described as a life-changing experience, and my time studying software design in Ireland has been just that and more. From the moment I arrived in Athlone to pursue my studies at the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS), I knew I was in for an adventure filled with new opportunities, personal growth, and meaningful experiences.
Leaving behind the familiarity of my home country to pursue my passion for software design was a decision that both excited and challenged me. However, as soon as I arrived in Athlone, any apprehensions I had quickly dissipated, as I was welcomed by the warm hospitality and scenic landscapes of Ireland.
One of the most rewarding aspects of studying in Ireland has been the diverse community of students and faculty members at TUS. Being surrounded by individuals from different cultural backgrounds not only broadened my perspectives but also fostered a sense of belonging and camaraderie. Whether collaborating on projects or engaging in discussions, the multicultural environment at TUS truly enriched my academic experience.
Living in Ireland also gave me the chance to explore its beautiful landscapes and lively cities, and even venture beyond its borders to experience the different cultures of Europe. Thanks to affordable flights and efficient transport systems, I was able to easily travel to various European destinations during breaks from my studies. Whether appreciating the beauty of the Wild Atlantic Way or wandering through the streets of Dublin, each journey was filled with memorable experiences.
One of the most meaningful aspects of my time in Ireland has been the friendships I’ve made along the way. From classmates to colleagues to fellow travellers, I’ve met people who have made my journey all the more rewarding. Whether sharing laughter over a cup of tea or offering support during difficult moments, these connections have made my study abroad experience truly memorable.
As I reflect on my time studying software design in Ireland, I feel thankful for the opportunities and experiences that have shaped me. From academic achievements to personal growth to unforgettable adventures, my time in Ireland will always hold a special place in my heart. As I prepare for the next chapter of my life, I carry with me the lessons learned and the memories created during my journey in the Emerald Isle.
