Ireland offers many a great study abroad experience and Sumeera Kamil, our Indian and Mary Immaculate College Ambassador, shares why she rates the both the countryside and the Irish people alongside the island’s academic reputation…

The Emerald Isle has always held a certain allure: Guinness, friendly locals, rolling verdant green hills, leprechauns, pots of gold, lucky charms, hearty food, and ancient castles. It is one of the most beautiful places in Europe! While studying in Ireland, I was amazed at the picturesque beauty of Ireland while taking part in top notch academic courses!

Improving the Indo-Pakistan relations led to my initial interest in the field of International Relations and studying specific geography and history courses at Mary Immaculate College has helped me analyse key political events.

As an International student from India, meeting diverse range of people has always fascinated me. I believe that it not only develops your communication skills but also gives you a firmer knowledge of the rich culture of the host country. Studying and living in another country helps a student to develop his/her own point of views about the culture rather than just accepting those defined by others. Politics and International Relations have always captivated me. It can be seen as essentially a convention inextricably linked to the birth of diversity and conflict, but it can also be seen as a willingness to co-operate and act collectively. Being from the Indian administered Kashmir, where political stability and good relations with her neighbours are considered luxuries; I have seen the importance of both politics and international relations for providing a safer future. Improving the Indo-Pakistan relations led to my initial interest in the field of International Relations and studying specific geography and history courses at Mary Immaculate College has helped me analyse key political events, historical developments in different governments and the complex set of factors involved in political leadership and opposition.

The Irish people… have an infectious charisma that just makes you happy.

Though I haven’t got to see much of the country, I have met a lot of locals — and I have to tell you that while Ireland itself is beautiful, it’s the Irish that make Ireland the wonderful country it is. I love the abundant friendliness and hospitality I was constantly shown while studying here— whether it was asking questions on the street, interactions in stores, or banter in the bars— the Irish were always happy, helpful, and energetic. They have an infectious charisma that just makes you happy.  Ireland is undoubtedly a beautiful country, with verdant hills and castle ruins around every corner, but what will bring me back to Ireland are the people and a desire to learn more about their history and culture.
